Making a portfolio as an event photographer isn’t easy. I think most event reportages shine as a gallery, some shots in there will be mostly for story telling purposes or to connect ‘scenes’ so to speak. That makes it very hard to put in a portfolio to me, without spamming too many images. On the other hand I think only showing off money shots is the wrong way to go, too. Sure, you hit some money shots here and there, but only showing off those kind of skews the picture of you as a photographer. So I’ve decided to showcase some stuff with a few words and more pictures- maybe rarely even full galleries, just like they were sent out to clients.
KAO Virtual Experience was an amazing production to be on- for many reasons. First of all it wasn’t your typical event, but rather a recording session for a virtual event. So to be fair, this is more of a set reportage than your typical event reportage. The same skill set was applied though. Secondly it meant I had to travel to Frankfurt in the midst of a global pandemic. I’ll be honest… that felt very sketchy, even though I took every safety precaution, tested for Covid, wore a mask everywhere at all times except in my hotel room. It was a great working experience though, everyone was incredibly professional- I guess that is due to the composition of the team, consisting of specialists from all over the world. These people work on point, stay friendly at all times and it’s just a pleasure to work with them. There is no room for drama or big headed people, just deliver what you’re here for. I definitely have to shout out the Photographer that was booked to cover the fashiony side of the event. I still haven’t found you on the web and was too shy to ask to connect, but if you’re out there: you were awesome, thank you for being so friendly and helpful, Markus!

You might want to grab a snack and drink, I kind of feel like I slightly overdelivered.
